Members of the Berri Returned & Services League had a growing collection of donated books and decided they would be more widely used if they were housed in the Berri Library and Information Centre where they could be seen and accessed by a broad section of the community.

The new library provided an area for these books and the RSL financed cabinets where the collection could be shelved.

The RSL 'Australia at War' Collection was officially opened on January 20th 2000 by Mr Don Woon OAM, State Vice President RSL South Australian Branch.

Life Member Mr Tom Guscott was the instigator and driving force behind the development of this collection and he continues to take an active part. Trevor Richardson and John Stafford have also been closely involved.

Many of the items are old and in a delicate condition requiring careful handling.

The Berri Library and Information Centre wishes to acknowledge all those who have made a personal contribution to the collection and also the Department of Veterans Affairs who have granted money under the Federal Government's "Their Service - Our Heritage" commemorative program to make promotion of this collection possible.

Donations of books relating to all wars will be gratefully added to the collection.
